| What are the aims of irt.org? |

- To generate enough revenue to pay for the costs of the domain name and web hosting fees, then to generate some revenue to be able to pay for articles to be written. The site does not exist to make a few people rich
- To promote the usability of the web, and support the online community by providing information, education, resources, consultancy and web design - although not necessarily for free
- To make irt.org the place to go when you want to buy developer software, hardware, books
- Provide up-to-date articles - which will be constantly reviewed, revised, corrected and expanded. Articles will not be archived and forgotten about, they will be lovingly cherished and promoted, and, if necessary removed
- To have an active group of developers. In exchange of the help this group of people provides, this group should have certain advantages, that would make their efforts worthwhile
- More than 10,000 subscribers to the newsletter in less than a year after the launch of irt.org
- More than 10,000 visitors per week in less than a year after the launch of irt.org
- Break-even in less than half a year

A Core Team Member is someone who has actually done something positive and continues to do something positive for irt.org, e.g. write articles,
maintains a FAQ, edits articles, maintains our site, writes CGI scripts, creates advertising revenue/sponsorship.

Principles (in order of priority):
- fast,
- professional,
- easy to maintain,
- attractive
Techniques:
- Cookies - we may use them but we will not rely on them
- Frames - we will not use them
- CGI-bin - we will hopefully make extensive use of CGI-bin scripts
- HTML - we will tailor META tags for each and every page
- File Names - must follow the 8.3 format, i.e. .htm and not .html
- JavaScript - we will use JavaScript to enable client side form processing, and to perhaps add a bit of functionality to the page, but not to the detriment of browsers that either don't support or have JavaScript switched off
- Java - possibly, although there will have to be good reasons why we use it
- Downloads - we will make available different formats of download files for the articles and FAQs, although we may eventually start to charge for the downloads
- Graphics - small file sizes, must use the browser safe palette, no graphics for the sake of graphics
- Animated Graphics - reserved for adverts only
- META tags - used to add extra value to each page
These tasks (and possibly others) will all need part-time owners. They will be rotated on a mutually agreed interval:
- The registration of the domain name will be acquired shortly DONE
- The purchasing of the web space will also be done very soon DONE
- We require commitment of intent from people who wish to join as part of the team DONE
- Any other ideas/suggestions that people have need to be aired DONE
- Discussion on this document needs to be quickly carried out, and then the document agreed DONE
- We need to agree roles and responsibilities DONE
- We need to agree the design and layout of the new site DONE
- The old JavaScript 'No Content' Web site needs to be copied and converted onto irt.org DONE
- irt.org needs to be tested DONE
- We announce the new site DONE
