The answer provided does work - but with a serious flaw. When swapping animated GIF REALTIME from the internet, MODEM users will have to face a slowdown of something like 5 seconds. Preloading solves the problems, but then, the animation doesn't work.

Say that you want to create a gradually glowing GIF text. Using OnMouseOver, you would swap the original image to a gradual glowing animation. Using the code given in Q789, it would take time to do that using slower modem connections.
