Comments: So what can I do to password protect when a user is using IE3.x?

Comments: This works beautifully on Netscape 4.0, however, does not perform as well in IE4. If the "password.htm" is not found on the server you recieve the default screen, rather than returning to the form entry on the preceding page.

Comments: I tried the example, but I also tried the next link: http://www.irt.org/articles/js062/x1y2z3.htm and I get "Password acepted". You should put a redirection script if the user doesn't come from the password page.

Comments: Unless I've missed something this script doesn't work? I need a script that won't load a 404 error page, and even though you say this deosn't it DOES! Its not a mistake by me as even your working example doesn't work??? I'm using IE5. Do you not test your scripts??? MOST disappointed.

Comments: Could not get this to work! It does not display any error message when I get the wrong password. Instead it displays the dreaded file not found error message. What did I do wrong?

Comments: The example doesn't bloody work! You try it. Enter the wrong password and it displays an error document! Let me know when you get it working!

Comments: But... does not work for IE5.0 When reading, I got the impression that it would not work with IE3 or lower. So, does it only work with NetScape, and if so, any ideas about an IE-version?

Comments: There's something wring with the "working example"; Does this password thin work at all? Im using Ie 5, but it doesn't work. I tried re-writing the code, using the same technique of checking an IMG.src with onerror, but the onError handler doesn't seem to work. Have you seen a working example? I'm in bad need for an easy javascript Pwd-protection. (without putting pwd in script/ or getting 404s.) Thanks anyway for a great site!! Christian Toivola

Comments: This script doesn't work with IE5.x. For one that does, try here. It's similar, but modified: http://www.jsr.communitech.net/password.htm
