Privacy Pledge

irt.org believes that strong electronic privacy is crucial for the ongoing success of the Internet as a service, commercial, and entertainment medium.

We pledge that irt.org will not release your personal data to anyone else without your consent.

When we do present information to our advertisers, unless you tell us otherwise, it is in the form of aggregate statistics compiled among all our visitors' answers to survey questions as well as grouped on-site behavior.

Document Use

The restrictions on the use of irt.org are fairly relaxed:

  • Information/knowledge available on irt.org can be used by anyone.
  • Code examples on irt.org can be freely copied and used.
  • Links to irt.org pages are to be welcomed.

However:

  • Framing of any part of irt.org is prohibited.
  • Any software available through irt.org remains the property of the author or licensor.
  • Links to irt.org images are prohibited.
  • The use of robots or browsers to bulk download pages for offline viewing is prohibited. Offending IP addresses will be barred from accessing irt.org

Requests for purchase, let or hire of any part of irt.org in any format (electronic, paper etc) must be made to the author of the relevant item.

Privacy

As part of our ongoing effort to provide the best in content to you, the user, irt.org has outlined the following information to address online privacy and consumer protection:

We do NOT share e-mail addresses, obtained via communcation with visitors to irt.org, with anyone.

We make no effort to identify public users of irt.org. No identifying data is disclosed to any third party for any purpose. Data that we collect is used only for server administration and Web protocol research.

While we will strive to deliver content and advertising that are specifically relevant to you, our pledge is that irt.org, will not release personal data to anyone else without consent. If others want this information, including your name or your email address, only you can choose to give it to them.

As is typical, we log http requests to our server. This means that we know the originating IP (e.g. 18.29.0.1) address of an agent requesting a URL, the visitor's domain name, referral data, and browser and platform type. We do not log the specific identity of visitors. We occasionally analyze the log files to determine which files are most requested. Our logging is passive; we do not use technologies such as cookies to maintain any information on users.

We also count, track and aggregate the visitors activity into our analysis of general traffic flows at irt.org. To these ends, we may merge information about you into group data, which may then be shared on an aggregates basis with our advertisers; but irt.org will not disclose your individual identity or personal data without your permission. When irt.org does present aggregated information to outside companies, no one will be able to identify you or contact you.

We also log requests to our search, CGI, and list maintenance services. This data is only used for administration and researching the efficiency of our tools.

Logged information is not disclosed outside of irt.org staff personnel. Aggregate (completely non-identifying) statistics generated from these logs may be reported as part of research results.

Internet Related Technologies (irt.org) works with a third party that serves ads to this site. To find out more about how Flycast manages the privacy of information in conjunction with serving ads on this site, please go to http://www.flycast.com/about_us/about-privacy.html.

Additionally, users should be aware that when they voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information (e.g. name, email address) on the bulletin boards of irt.org, that information, along with any substantive information disclosed in the user's communication, can be collected and correlated and used by third parties and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or third parties. Such activities are beyond the control of irt.org.

Translation

A translation, is a derivative work. We allow such derivative works to be created, reproduced, or displayed if the following requirements are met:

  • That the translation does not form part of a commercial site, that the translated article is not sold, let or hired to a third party.
  • Inform irt.org of your plan to translate our content and inform us of when you've completed and published the translation. Such notice should be sent to multilingual@irt.org and - if possible - to the author of the document.
  • Prominently disclose in the target language the following 3 items:
    • the original URL, and its original copyright notice as required by the irt.org document copyright notice:
      "Copyright © 1996-2000 irt.org, All Rights Reserved."
    • that the normative version of the specification is the English version found at the irt.org site.
    • that the translated document may contain errors from the translation.

    This disclosure should be made in a header and/or footer that wraps the translated irt.org document. No semantic changes should be made to any part of the irt.org document including the contributors, or appendices. If comments or annotations are absolutely necessary within the content of the specification, those annotations must be clearly represented as such.

  • Agree:
    • to the redistribution terms of the irt.org document copyright notice. Consequently, your translation may be republished by irt.org or other entities if it is done in compliance with the notice's terms.
    • that irt.org may rescind your right to publish or distribute the derivative work if irt.org finds that it leads to confusion regarding the original document's status or integrity.
Limitation on Liability

In no event will irt.org be liable to any part for any direct, indirect, special or consequential damages for any use of this site, or on any other hyperlinked web site, including, without limitation, any lost profits, business interruption, loss of programs or other data on your information handling system or otherwise, even if irt.org is expressly advised of the possibility of such damages.
