<image, algorithm> (CBIR, query by image content, QBIC, content-based visual information retrieval, CBVIR) A general term for methods using image analysis to try to identify objects and features in images to allow them to indexed and searched.

This contrasts with the use of image metadata such as keywords or tags associated with (and possibly stored in) the image.
