Animated GIFs are really just a series of normal GIF files compiled together with information such as display time for each frame.
To make your own animated GIF, first create each frame in a graphics program, and then use an animated GIF construction program like the Animation Shop in Paint Shop Pro 5 or Microsoft's GIF Animator.
